Kevin Costner’s Ambitious Western Movie Is Already Dominating on Streaming

Kevin Costner’s Western epic has emerged as a surprise hit on Amazon Prime Video. The movie was a box office disappointment, but it appears to have found a sizeable audience on streaming platforms.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is among Prime Video’s top movies

According to FlixPatrol’s data for June 4, 2026, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is #10 on Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 Movies list. The movie arrived on the platform last month, on May 23.

Meanwhile, John Krasinski’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War holds the top spot on the Top 10 list. It is followed by Liam Neeson’s Battleship at #2, Steve Carell’s Despicable Me 4 at #3, Mckenna Grace’s Regretting You at #4, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another at #5.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is Kevin Costner’s first film in his planned four-part saga. It explores the settlement of the American West during and around the American Civil War.

Chapter 1 in particular follows multiple interconnected stories before and during the Civil War. It begins with settlers seeking to build their new town called Horizon, which sparks conflict with the local Apache tribe defending their lands. Meanwhile, Frances Kittredge and her daughter, Elizabeth, are survivors of the Apache raids and seek refuge at an army camp. Elsewhere, a woman named Lucy flees and assumes a new identity with her son after shooting a dangerous man.

Released on June 28, 2024, Costner directed, co-produced, and co-wrote the film. It reportedly cost $100 million to make, but earned roughly $38 million at the global box office. Critically, it received a mixed-to-positive reception. 160 critics on Rotten Tomatoes rated the film an average of 51%, while the users gave it 70%.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 was filmed back-to-back with the first film and was scheduled for release the same year. However, due to the underwhelming performance of Chapter 1, it has been delayed indefinitely.
