Fired Batwoman Star Blasts Sydney Sweeney After Christy Flops at Box Office

Following the underwhelming performance of Sydney Sweeney’s Christy at the box office, amidst less-than-favorable reviews, Batwoman star Ruby Rose has blasted Sweeney for her acting, which she claims was a major reason for the film’s failure. She also addressed Sweeney’s Republican leanings and claimed that the actual community does not want to see “someone who hates them” pretending to be them.

Ruby Rose says Sydney Sweeney ‘ruined’ Christy after the film’s box office failure

Sydney Sweeney has called this the most important role of her life in many interviews and PR campaigns so far. She also reportedly put in a lot of work to embody the openly lesbian boxer, Christy Martin, who was a trailblazer in the sport and left a lasting impact that will echo through generations.

But despite the earlier anticipation, Christy did not work as well as one would have expected. Instead, it became one of the biggest flops in the genre, with only $1.3 million in its opening weekend. The film also holds a 65% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ruby Rose, who was earlier attached to the project, was left absolutely dissatisfied with the film and Sydney’s portrayal. She posted about this on Threads and criticized Sydney Sweeney.

“The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life-changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time,” the Orange is the New Black actress wrote.

“For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’.

None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin, and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better,” she added, bashing Sydney Sweeney.

Sweeney was very recently involved in the American Eagle jeans controversy, which many felt promoted eugenics and had undertones of White Supremacy. Things continue to be tense even now. Sweeney recently refused to address the controversy properly in a recent interview with GQ, drawing further backlash.

Despite Rose’s criticism, Christy Martin praised the film and Sweeney’s acting. “I think it’s awesome,” Martin remarked at the Toronto Film Festival.
