Lionsgate has announced the cast of three more actors, who has been tapped to join The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping cast. The newest installment to the blockbuster franchise is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 20, 2026.
Who are joining the Sunrise on the Reaping cast?
Golden Globe nominee Elle Fanning has signed on to portray the fan-favorite character of Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, which will center around a young Haymitch Abernathy. In the original film franchise, Elizabeth Banks portrayed the older version of Effie Trinket, who was introduced as Peeta and Katniss’ stylist. In the new prequel, Haymitch’s team was the first District 12 tributes that Effie styled.
Besides Fanning, young actresses Molly McCann and Iona Bell have been tapped to play the respective roles of Louella McCoy and Lou Lou. They will be joining previous announced cast members Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Lili Taylor as Mags, Ben Wang as Wyatt, and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay written by Billy Ray. The story will take place during Panem’s Second Quarter Quell, where each district will have four tributes instead of two. Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will be producing, with Cameron MacConomy set as an executive producer.
The character of Haymitch Abernathy was originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the film franchise. Unlike The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, fans already have an idea of what to expect from the upcoming prequel novel since 2009’s Catching Fire had mentioned key details about how Haymitch won his game, which featured 48 tributes rather than 24, while Katniss and Peeta were preparing for their own Quarter Quell.
