Why Superman Fans Think Tom Cruise Is Playing Jor-El

Speculation is running wild among DC fans, as rumors suggest that a major A-list actor could make a surprise cameo in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. One of the biggest names being floated around is Tom Cruise, with many wondering if he might play Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El.

Will Tom Cruise play Superman’s father, Jor-El in DCU?

As of now, it has not been confirmed if Tom Cruise will be playing Superman’s father, Jor-El, in DCU.

Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider recently stirred the pot by suggesting that James Gunn’s Superman might feature some unexpected casting surprises. In his newsletter, Sneider hinted that a major A-list actor could be stepping into the role of Jor-El, Superman’s biological father, aka Tom Cruise. Sneider cited that he recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop new films and franchises with the studio. This connection has fueled speculation that DC might be planning to bring Cruise into its universe.

“Could DC have plans for Cruise? It’s possible… though I can only imagine him as Batman or as Superman’s biological father, Jor-El,” Sneider wrote. He added, “There are said to be some major casting surprises in Gunn’s Superman, and I imagine Jor-El is one of them, so stay tuned on that front…”

The idea of Tom Cruise playing Jor-El has divided Superman fans. Some Reddit users expressed their disapproval, with one saying, “I don’t like it. He’s too famous.” Another fan commented, “I don’t like Cruise and his connections to Scientology… He just isn’t my preferred choice for the role.”

However, others believe casting Tom Cruise for Superman’s Jor-El makes sense. After all, previous takes on the role included Marlon Brando in Superman: The Movie (1978) and Russell Crowe in Man of Steel (2013). So far, there’s been no confirmation that Jor-El is part of Gunn’s Superman.
