The Sims Live-Action Movie Announced From Loki Director and Producer Margot Robbie

The Sims is being turned into a live-action movie.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron has been tapped to direct a movie based on the popular life simulation video game, The Sims. Herron will co-write the screenplay for the movie with Briony Redman.

Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider first broke the news.

What do we know about the live-action Sims movie?

Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara will produce the movie through the LuckyChap Entertainment banner, while Roy Lee will produce for Vertigo Entertainment. Electronic Arts, the company that publishes the video game series, will also be involved in the creative and production process.

Plot details remain under wraps at this time. Casting for the movie has not yet been announced.

Herron directed six episodes of Marvel Studios’ Loki television series. She’s also directed episodes of Sex Education and Daybreak, while she’s attached to helm episodes of The Last of Us’ upcoming second season.

Herron and Redman also wrote an episode of Doctor Who’s upcoming fourteenth series, which premieres in May.

The first Sims video game was released in 2000. The franchise quickly expanded beyond that with sequels, expansion packs, and more, with the latest release being 2023’s The Sims 4: For Rent. The Sims games typically don’t revolve around any kind of plot; rather, they are open-world sandbox experiences where players can build houses for virtual people and then control them as they go throughout their day.

LuckyChap Entertainment has produced a number of movies starring Robbie, including 2017’s I, Tonya, 2020’s Birds of Prey, and 2023’s Barbie. The company has also produced 2018’s Terminal, 2019’s Dreamland, 2020’s Promising Young Woman, 2021’s The Humming of the Beast, 2023’s Boston Strangler, 2023’s Saltburn, and 2024’s My Old Ass.

A release date for the new live-action Sims movie has not yet been set.
