King and Conqueror: James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Join Period Drama Series

King and Conqueror has found its two leads. According to Deadline, James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will star in King and Conqueror, a period drama series from CBS Studios. King and Conqueror centers around Harold of Wessex (Norton) and William of Normandy (Coster-Waldau), two prominent figures in 11th-century England. Production is set to begin in 2024.

Norton is best known for his role as Tommy Lee Royce in the British crime series Happy Valley. Norton will next star in Bob Marley: One Love, arriving in theaters on February 14, 2024. Meanwhile, Coster-Waldau came to prominence as Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones. Coster-Waldau’s 2023 credits include God Is a Bullet and the Apple TV+ series, The Last Thing He Told Me.

What to Expect in King and Conqueror?

“King and Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country — and a continent — for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea,” the synopsis reads. “Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the British throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.”

King and Conqueror is created and executive produced by Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). Executive producers include Norton and Kitty Kaletsky for Rabbit Track Pictures, Robert Taylor for The Development Partnership, Baltasar Kormákur for RVK Studios, Dave Clarke and Richard Halliwell for Shepherd Content, Ed Clarke, Robert Jones, Coster-Waldau, and CBS Studios’ Lindsey Martin.

Kormákur will direct the first episode and “steer the creative” across the series. BBC will broadcast the series on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom. Paramount Global Content Distribution will distribute the series outside of this market.
