Rowoon’s New K-Drama The Matchmakers Episode 1 Rating Beats Destined With You

The Matchmakers, starring Rowoon, premiered on Monday, October 20, 2023. The K-drama opened to positive reviews and likewise secured the No.1 rating. Prior to that, the former SF9 member garnered appreciation for his role in Destined With You.

Although Rowoon does not have many K-dramas to his name, almost all of his projects have performed well. After his incredible performance in Destined With You, fans eagerly waited for his new drama, The Matchmakers. According to reports, the first episode of his latest series bagged better ratings than the premiere of his previous drama with Jo Bo-Ah.

Rowoon’s The Matchmakers episode 1 ratings revealed

KBS2’s The Matchmakers released episode 1 on October 30, 2023. Soompi reported that the historical rom-com opened to an average nationwide rating of 4.5 percent, which is considered to be the No.1 rating.

Rowoon’s new drama premiere beats his previous project, Destined With You. In an earlier report, JTBC’s Destined With You episode 1 ratings were revealed. The fantasy rom-com drama’s premiere received an average nationwide viewership rating of 2.9 percent. However, the percentage increased drastically in later episodes. The rise in The Matchmakers K-drama graph can also be expected as the season progresses.

The series stars Rowoon as Shim Jung-Woo, a nobleman and a young widower. As he cannot remarry or land a civil job, he decides to become a matchmaker. He seeks the help of the best matchmaker in town, Mrs. Yeo Joo. Actress Cho Yi-Hyun essays the dual role of matchmaker Yeo Joo and young widow Jung Soon-Deok. 

The Viki description of the new K-drama reads, “This unlikely duo must team up to find husbands for a handful of important Joseon women whose age is starting to creep up. Their outlooks on life are very different, but they have no choice but to work together. Could playing Cupid for others put them back on the path to love?”

Apart from the lead cast, the Hwang Seung-Gi and Kim Soo-Jin directorial stars Park Ji-Young, Jo Han-Chul, Lee Hae-Young, Jin Hee-Kyung, Jung Shin-Hye, Park Ji-Won, Jung Mo-Bin, Oh Yeju, and Park Hwan-Hee.

The Matchmakers K-drama airs new episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:45 p.m. KST on KBS. The K-drama is also available on Viki.
