X-Men ’97 Funko Pop Spoils Appearance of Comic Villain in Disney+ Revival

Another Marvel character has been confirmed to appear in the highly-anticipated Disney+ revival X-Men ’97, which is currently slated to debut in early 2024. The photos of one of NYCC’s exclusive X-Men ’97 Funko Pops have surfaced online through X, spoiling the upcoming animated debut of Madelyne Pryor aka Goblin Queen.

The Goblin Queen was created by Chris Claremont and Paul Smith. In the comics, she’s best known as one of X-Men’s major villains. She’s a clone of Jean Grey, who became a love interest to Scott Summers/ Cyclops. The Goblin Queen Funko Pop can be seen holding a baby, hinting at Baby Cable’s inclusion in the animated revival series.

What to expect in X-Men ’97?

The official synopsis for X-Men ‘97 reads: “Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all.”

X-Men ’97 will explore new stories in the iconic 90s timeline of the original series. It will feature voices of Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Lenore Zahn as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, A.J. LoCascio as Gambit, and Christopher Britton as Mister Sinister. Other X-Men character such as Bishop, Cable, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, and more will also appear in the series.

It is created and executive produced by head writer Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf). The revival is expected to retain the iconic theme music from the original X-Men animated series. Ahead of its Disney+ debut, Marvel Studios is already developing its second season.
