Rosemary’s Baby Prequel Apartment 7A Gets First Details

A Rosemary’s Baby prequel film is in the works — and World of Reel reports a recent test screening left people optimistic.

What do we know about Apartment 7A?

According to the report, a recent test screening for a movie titled Apartment 7A was — in fact — a Rosemary’s Baby prequel. The report mentions the film follows the woman who died outside of the apartment prior to Rosemary moving into the Bramford.

World of Reel’s report describes leads Diane Wiest and Julia Garner as “intense and clever.” Wiest is called “diabolically hilarious” and Garner “totally committed” to the project. The film’s director is Natalie Erika James, who previously directed the psychological horror film Relic in 2020.

Alongside Wiest and Garner, the film is also reported to star Marli Siu and Rosy McEwen.

Apartment 7A has been in development for some time, although the fact that the project is a Rosemary’s Baby prequel is new. The film is written by Skylar James, Christian White, and Natalie Erika James, and will be produced by John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.

The original Rosemary’s Baby was released in 1968 from director Roman Polanski. Based on Ira Levin’s 1967 novel of the same name, the film follows the story of pregnant Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) and her husband moving into a New York City apartment. However, Woodhouse soon discovers their neighbors are actually in a Satanic cult — and grooming her to use her baby when it’s born.

The film was a massive success upon its release, and is often regarded as one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Farrow’s performance is renowned, and the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2014.
