The Penguin paused

The Penguin Production Paused on The Batman Spin-off Series

Production on The Penguin has been paused, as the DC series will be on hold as a result of the ongoing WGA strike.

Deadline has reported that The Penguin’s production has been paused indefinitely until the writers strike has been resolved. The Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti-led Max drama series joins Daredevil: Born Again in this regard, as the Marvel series has been similarly paused until the strike’s resolution.

What is The Penguin about?

Set in the world of the 2022’s The Batman, The Penguin will focus on Oswald Cobblepot’s past and show his rise to power in Gotham’s seedy underbelly rather than portray him as the established kingpin. The character has a rich history of live-action appearances, as Danny DeVito famously played Penguin in Batman Returns while Robin Lord Taylor portrayed him in Gotham.

The limited drama is based on the DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It is being written by Lauren LeFranc, who is also set as the showrunner. The first two episodes will be directed by Craig Zobel. Joining Farrell are Rhenzy Feliz, Cristin Milioti, Michael Zegen, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Francois Chau, Carmen Ejogo, and David H. Holmes. It is also rumored that Robert Pattinson might make an appearance as Bruce Wayne/ Batman.

It is executive produced by The Batman’s Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves, Farrell, LeFranc, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassanand, and Rafi Crohn. It is a joint project between 6th and Idaho, DC Entertainment, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
