Sonic Origins Confirms Release Date via Confusing Pre-Order Chart

Sega finally confirmed that Sonic Origins would release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on June 23. The collection includes all the original 2D Sonic adventures from the Genesis original to Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Every game has a classic mode that preserves the original game’s presentation and an enhanced modern take with unlimited lives and HD visuals that fit on modern displays.

Sonic Origins Confirms Release Date Via Confusing Pre-Order Chart

All this should be worth celebrating for Sonic fans, but one aspect of the reveal has more than a few of them scratching their heads. The official Sonic Origins website contains a pre-order chart that goes over the game’s various DLC and retail offerings, but they’re all jumbled together in a way that’s confusing some customers and angering others.

Despite having only a $40 regular release and a $45 deluxe edition, five separate entries for Sonic Origins are listed in the chart, including pre-order DLC that is free for all as long as they grab the game early. Some of the DLC is also merely an early unlock for bonus modes and features that are available later for players who complete the Blue Blur’s various adventures. It’s so confusing that some fans on Twitter have designed their own chart to explain things more clearly.

Retro rereleases don’t often cause headaches, but Sega found a way with its Sonic Origins release date reveal trailer. Still, for fans who’ve been waiting for a rerelease of Sonic 3 for years because of the game’s notorious legal troubles, the collection will be most welcome when it hits this June.
