According to Deadline, MGM and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are currently in the process of developing a film adaptation of The Husbands, based on New York Times bestselling author Chandler Baker’s upcoming thriller novel of the same name. Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) has officially signed on for the leading role, with Baker set to pen the screenplay.

The Husbands centers around an overworked mother who, while house-hunting in a nice suburban neighborhood, meets a group of high-powered women with enviably supportive husbands. When she agrees to take on a legal case involving the untimely death of one resident’s husband, she risks exposing not only the secrets at the heart of her own marriage but the true secret to having it all, one worth killing for.

Described as a gender-swap take on the Stepford Wives, the novel imagines a world where the burden of the “second shift” is equally shared, and what it may take to get there. It is scheduled to launch on August 3 and is now available for pre-order by clicking here.

The adaptation of The Husbands will also be produced by Wiig, with Bake also serving as an executive producer. It is a co-production between MGM and Plan B, who are currently working together on other film projects such as Sarah Polley’s Women Talking adaptation starring Frances McDormand, and an untitled romance film directed by Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung.

The Saturday Night Live alum recently starred in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, and in Lionsgate’s comedy pic Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar which she co-wrote with co-star Annie Mumolo. Wiig and Mumolo are also currently writing the screenplay for Disney’s untitled live-action film centered around Cinderella’s Evil Stepsisters.
