Captain Underpants to Feature the Voice Talents of Kevin Hart and Ed Helms

The project first announced back in 2011, DreamWorks Animation has set their voice cast for director Rob Letterman’s (Monsters vs. Aliens) children’s book series adaptation Captain Underpants. Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Jordan Peele and Thomas Middleditch will lend their voices to the animated adventure.

The “Captain Underpants” book series, written by Dav Pilkey, tells the story of two mischievous kids, George Beard (Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Middleditch), who hypnotize their school principal (Helms) and turn him into their comic book creation, Captain Underpants.

Kroll will play the film’s villain, Professor Poopypants, while Peele will voice nerdy tattletale Melvin Sneedly.

“These actors are some of the funniest around today” says Letterman. “Letting them loose with these characters is sure to be a hysterical ride.”

Scholastic first launched the “Captain Underpants” book series in September of 1997 and there are over 50 million Pilkey books in print in the U.S. alone. Eight “Captain Underpants” books have been published in 19 countries and several have debuted at #1 on various best-seller lists, including The New York Times and USA Today.
