Jake Johnson and Dakota Fanning explore a complicated relationship in The Sun Never Sets trailer. The upcoming rom-com is distributed by Independent Film Company.
The synopsis reads, “Wendy (Fanning) believes she’s perfectly happy in her relationship, until her older boyfriend, Jack (Johnson), who is divorced with children, insists they take a break to make sure she’s truly okay giving up on the idea of marriage and babies. During this time, Wendy unexpectedly runs into her ex, Chuck (Cory Michael Smith), who reignites her carefree and spontaneous side, and suddenly seems to want a family. The three of them navigate a chaotic, confusing, and often funny relationship triangle, reminding us that the pursuit of love is beautiful and messy all at once.”

The trailer for The Sun Never Sets centers on a love triangle involving three of the film’s main characters. The relationship dynamics between Wendy and Jack are highlighted and carry over throughout, becoming more and more complicated.
She is torn between her ex-boyfriend, with whom she reconnects and who wants the same future she does, and her boyfriend of two years, who initially wanted a break but now tries to win her back after learning about the rekindled relationship. This push-and-pull among the three creates a complex yet realistic story by the writer-director Joe Swanberg.
He is known for directing the movies Drinking Buddies, Digging for Fire, Build the Wall, and Win It All. He has also worked with Johnson many times on previous projects. The cast also includes Debby Ryan, Anna Konkle, Lamorne Morris, and Karley Sciortino.
Fanning, Johnson, Smith, and Swanberg are also credited as producers of the movie along with Ashleigh Snead. Dan Johnson, Ariana Parsa, Kathy Gitibin Parsa, and Nathan Wang are the executive producers. The upcoming romantic comedy movie was filmed in Alaska and has a runtime of 102 minutes.
The movie will hit theaters in Chicago on August 28, 2026, followed by a worldwide release on September 4.
