Paul Blart: Mall Cop Sequel Moving Forward

A sequel to 2009’s surprise box office hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop is moving forward today as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Andy Fickman is in talks to direct with Kevin James set to reprise his title role. James will also co-write the script alongside Nick Bakay, as was the case with the original.

Grossing more than $183 million worldwide on a $26 million budget, Paul Blart: Mall Cop also starred Jayma Mays, Keir O’Donnell, Raini Rodriguez, Shirley Knight and Bobby Cannavale. It follows the adventures of a hapless security guard who is forced to defend his mall after it gets taken over by a group of criminals.

Fickman is best known for directing comedies like She’s the Man and The Game Plan. He also re-teamed with the latter film’s star, Dwayne Johnson, for Race to Witch Mountain in 2009 and mostly recently helmed Parental Guidance with Billy Crystal and Better Midler.

James will produce alongside Todd Garner and Adam Sandler with production looking to begin this April.
