Marvel’s She-Hulk Lands Pickle Rick Writer Jessica Gao

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Disney+’s upcoming Marvel Studios series She-Hulk has found its first lead writer in Jessica Gao, the Emmy-winning scribe behind Rick and Morty‘s acclaimed Season 3 episode “Pickle Rick.”

Gao has signed on to develop the series and lead the writer’s room for the Marvel Studios project. The news comes on the heels of Moon Knight, another Marvel series announced at the same time as She-Hulk at D-23, has found its creative head in The Umbrella Academy‘s Jeremy Slater.

In addition to penning the Emmy winning “Pickle Rick,” Gao has been on the writing staff for HBO’s Silicon Valley, Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken and Nickelodeon’s The Mighty B!. She is also set to write a film adaptation of the acclaimed YA novel series Sweet Valley High.

She-Hulk debuted in Marvel Comics’ “Savage She-Hulk” #1 in 1980, created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema. Her alter ego is Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/Hulk, who after being shot is provided a blood transfusion from Bruce that turns her into a similar green monster. She later became a member of the Avengers and briefly replaced Ben Grimm in The Fantastic Four.

She-Hulk is one of a slew of properties Marvel Studios is currently developing for the forthcoming streaming service Disney+, including The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLokiWhat If…?WandaVisionHawkeye, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel. The Winter Soldier series is set to be the first to premiere amongst the group, with the six-episode first season slated for an August 2020 debut.
