Marvel’s Nova Series Has Found Its Writer & It May Divide MCU Fans

Marvel’s Nova series just locked in a writer, and the choice might surprise longtime MCU fans. The WGA directory reveals the screenwriter now attached to the long-developing Disney+ project and what it could mean for the show’s direction.

WGA lists Michael Waldron as the writer of Marvel’s Nova series

The Writers Guild of America West directory now lists Michael Waldron on the upcoming Marvel Television series Nova. The WGA page includes Nova in Waldron’s television series employment history for the 2026-2027 season. The listing categorizes the project under the drama genre.

Waldron’s attachment may reignite a familiar debate among MCU fans. Many viewers pushed back during the era when Marvel recruited heavily from the Rick & Morty writers’ room. Waldron himself came from that pipeline before writing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He has since become one of Marvel’s most relied-upon writers, co-writing both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars with Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios has been developing a Nova project for several years. Kevin Feige first mentioned the character’s “immediate potential” back in May 2018. The studio attached Moon Knight scribe Sabir Pirzada to write the project in March 2022. The Hollywood Reporter later revealed in February 2023 that Nova would become a Disney+ series.

Feige then confirmed in July 2024 that the show would feature the Richard Rider version of Nova. He indicated the series remained “three or four years out” at that point. Deadline reported in December 2024 that Ed Bernero had replaced Pirzada as writer and showrunner.

The project hit a setback in February 2025 when Marvel Studios paused development. Deadline confirmed at the time that Nova was among several series put on hold. The WGA listing now suggests the project has resumed with Waldron aboard. Bernero remains attached as showrunner based on the most recent available information.

Waldron also created the Loki series and co-created the Hulu comedy Chad Powers with Glen Powell. His production company Anomaly Pictures signed an overall deal with 20th Television in April 2026. The WGA directory does not yet list a specific job title for Waldron on Nova.
