Marvel’s Nova is finally in the works with an acclaimed writer. The writer has previously worked on several MCU projects, bringing experience with the franchise. The Nova franchise is still in its early stages of development, but it is good news nonetheless.
What is the update on Marvel’s Nova movie?
It was previously revealed that Michael Waldron would write the script for Marvel’s Nova. According to the latest report, Waldron is also expected to direct the feature if the script moves forward. However, neither Marvel Studios nor Waldron’s representative commented on the report. (via Deadline)
In 2022, Marvel Studios planned to adapt the comic into a TV series based on a script by Sabir Pirzada. Pirzada had previously written Marvel’s Moon Knight. In February 2023, it was reported that Nova would become a Disney+ series. However, this idea was shelved in 2025. News that the project was moving forward emerged after Waldron’s Writers Guild of America West directory listed him as the writer of Nova.

The writer is not new to the franchise, having previously worked on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Avengers: Doomsday, and Secret Wars. Additionally, he co-created and wrote Chad Powers alongside Glen Powell. He also stated that Powell would be perfect for the role of Richard Rider/Nova.
Nova would be a new character introduced to TV and movie audiences. Richard Rider first appeared in Nova #1 (1976), published by Marvel Comics. He was part of the intergalactic police force called the Nova Corps.
The character has superhuman abilities, including enhanced strength and resistance to injury. Although Nova has not traditionally been an Avenger, he has battled the Skrulls, who have played major roles in Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion.
As of now, only this much is known about the Nova movie. However, with the script in development and Waldron reportedly attached to direct, more updates on the project are expected in the coming months.
