Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche to Headline Words and Pictures

Fred Schepisi (Roxanne, Six Degrees of Separation) will direct Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche in Words and Pictures, an original romantic drama conceived and written by Gerald DiPego (Phenomenon, Message in a Bottle).

Curtis Burch is producing for his Latitude Productions banner in association with Gary Cogill for Dallas-based Lascaux Films. DiPego is also a producer. Joseph Cohen of American Entertainment Investors, Inc. is executive producer. The film, which newly formed Latitude Productions acquired as its first project, begins shooting in March 2013.

The story takes place at an elite, insular New England prep school where a charismatic English teacher (Owen) and an intensely private art teacher (Binoche) create an improbable relationship, then proceed to complicate their lives with romance.

States Burch: “When I first read this uniquely romantic screenplay by Gerald DiPego, based on his original concept, I knew I had to acquire it as Latitude’s first project, as it is an enchanting love story colored with a sophisticated humor and would be ideal for Fred Schepisi to direct. It was with Fred’s commitment that we were able to attract Clive and Juliette, who are a perfect fit to create the chemistry between the two leads at the heart of the story. I am also very excited to be working alongside Lascaux Films to bring this movie to the screen.”

Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Owen was most recently seen in the multi-Emmy nominated HBO film, Hemingway and Gelhorn, co-starring Nicole Kidman, for which Owen was nominated as Lead Actor. He is next to be seen in the feature Blood Ties, also starring Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, and James Caan. Owen is currently filming The Last Knights with Morgan Freeman.

The Oscar-winning Binoche (The English Patient, Chocolat) was most recently seen in Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy for which Binoche won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival and will next be seen in An Open Heart opposite Edgar Ramirez, and Bruno Dumont’s new film, La Creatrice. She is currently filming Erik Poppe’s A Thousand Times Good Night opposite Nicolaj Coster-Waldau.
