Spice Girls Reuniting for Animated Superhero Movie

Variety reports that the popular British pop group Spice Girls will be reuniting for an animated film project with a superhero “girl power” theme. Each character in the movie will be voiced by a Spice Girl and will feature a power unique to each group member that reflects their personality.

The Spice Girls’ group includes members Victoria Beckham as Posh Spice, Melanie Brown as Scary Spice, Emma Bunton as Baby Spice, Melanie Chisholm as Sporty Spice, and Geri Halliwell as Ginger Spice. The film is currently being shopped to potential production partners.

There have been recent rumors that the Spice Girls have been planning a reunion tour, with former bandmates saying that they had met to “explore some incredible new opportunities,” though no dates have been booked by the Spice Girls’ longtime agency, CAA. Beckham has apparently played down any possibility of a tour, with an insider telling Variety that talk of a reunion tour was “premature.”

That same source adds that the girls are, however, “fired up” about the idea of working on the animated superhero film, saying that the “Spice Girls are thinking big in terms of a franchise on a global scale. They’re the most successful girl group on the planet. It’s just what Marvel or Disney needs.” Simon Fuller, the Spice Girls’ manager, had no comment.
