Cannes: Watch a Clip from Natalie Portman’s Feature Directorial Debut, ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’

Natalie Portman‘s feature directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness, will enjoy its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year, playing as a Special Screenings selection, but the prestige of a Cannes screening also comes with the scrutiny of a Cannes screening. This year’s Cannes selection is filled with top tier international talent so I wouldn’t be surprised if Portman is feeling the heat, but here’s to hoping she’s put something special together with her first effort as today we get a first look at a new clip from the movie.

Based on Amos Oz’s international best-seller, A Tale of Love and Darkness is the story of Oz’s youth at the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel. The film details young Amos’ relationship with his mother and his birth as a writer, looking at what happens when the stories we tell, become the stories we live.

Portman not only directs, but she wrote the film’s screenplay and stars in the movie alongside Gilad Kahana, Shira Haas and Makram Khoury. Check out the first clip below.
