Plot Summary: In the futuristic action-thriller "Repo Men," humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called The Union. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don't pay your bill, The Union sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property... with no concern for your comfort or survival.

Jude Law plays Remy, one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company's top-of-the-line heart-replacement... as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart's no longer in the job. When he can't make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy's former partner Jake (Academy AwardŽ winner Forest Whitaker), to track him down.

Now that the hunter has become the hunted, Remy joins Beth (Alice Braga), another debtor who teaches him how to vanish from the system. And as he and Jake embark on a chase across a landscape populated by maniacal friends and foes, one man will become a reluctant champion for thousands on the run.

The film is based on the novel "The Repossession Mambo" by Eric Garcia.

I'm not sure when and how 'Repo:' began, but 'Repossession Mambo' is based on the novel of the same name, by Eric Garcia (who also wrote 'Matchstick Men'). From his 'Author's Note' in the novel: The novel was developed from the short story 'The Telltale Pancreas', which Garcia wrote in 1997, because his friend Bob Kurtzman (H'wood f/x,director, etc) saw a 'potential film' in it. He started work in earnest on the book in 1999, had a first-draft screenplay in July 2002, revised it repeatedly until he had a 'draft that we all adored' in November 2004. He'd connected with director Sapochnik, who became a 'tireless advocate' for the film, and then in mid-2006, Jude Law read the script and wanted in... With all that history, I'd say RepoMan88 has his thievery rant looking in the wrong direction.

I don't think the author's note in a book that wasn't even published til the movie was well underway is hardly proof that "repo men" came before "repo!: the genetic opera". The genetic opera has a thick mythos that can only come from years of perfecting a story. ALL of Eric Garcia's story's are slow, poorly written, and vaguely familiar (or ripped off for those who don't get subtlty). This is a silly arguement, that must stop cuz when the smoke clears Eric Garcia's "Repo Men" will be just another dvd in the .99 cent bin at blockbuster. No one will care six months after it's release.

to Billyrave:

i hate to burst your bubble, good sir, but the stage production of Repo! The Genetic Opera was created before the writing of said book. "Repo Men" is simply more proof of Hollywood's incapability of producing fresh material. In my opinion, we should lose the "Hollywood" cover and begin allowing the real artists and film makers to get their work out. And as gr3fxx said, this will indisputably end up in a .99 cent bin. Soon or later people will realize the unoriginality and complete "photocopy" of this film.

This is a complete and totaly scam of REPO: The Genetic opera. Hollywood needs to pull their heads out of their butts and come up with something original and stop stealing great ideas.

I agree 100% with repoman88. I wonder why they never wanted to make the sequel to repoman- about waldo coming back to earth. I say waldo because he changed his name. But yeah **** this ****.

So mad I can't even spell correctly. God. But the original people have already been working on a SEQUEL, so don't give us that bull****. This can only be a lame-ass attempt at a cover of a movie, it's like someone singing karaoke while they're very sad - and very drunk.
