Vince McMahon Still in Contact with Top WWE Superstars After Departure

Recent reports have highlighted Vince McMahon‘s activities following his departure from WWE. According to these reports, McMahon is still in contact with the top two WWE superstars. In January 2024, Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, initiated a legal case against Vince McMahon. She accused the former WWE CEO of sex trafficking and abuse.

The lawsuit resulted in McMahon stepping down from his role as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings. Although WWE has distanced McMahon from the promotion, WWE superstars like The Rock and John Cena are still in contact with him.

NBC News reports, “Since he resigned, McMahon has been in touch with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena.” It added, “Johnson and Cena, both Hollywood superstars, are two of WWE’s biggest success stories.”

Furthermore, the reports said, “Cena and Johnson are both represented by the William Morris Endeavor agency, which is part of Endeavor Group the majority owner of TKO. A spokesperson for Johnson declined to comment. A representative for Cena didn’t respond to requests for comment.”

The reports also state that McMahon was in touch with former US President Donald Trump. However, there is inadequate information on the specific nature of their discussions.

Is Vince McMahon planning a new wrestling promotion post WWE departure?

Vince McMahon, no longer tied to WWE, recently took a significant step forward by selling many of his stocks. He personally listed all his remaining stock shares for sale. Upon completion of the sale, many speculate that he will sever all ties with TKO and WWE.

During a recent episode of his Wrestling Observer podcast, Dave Meltzer shared his opinion on Vince McMahon potentially starting a new wrestling promotion. He stated, “While my belief is that McMahon is done in wrestling, given he’s 78 years old, from a legal standpoint he does have a one-year non-compete ends in late January 2025. He can, at that point, start up a new promotion.”

Meltzer continued, “Since the word got out, I’ve had discussions and other communications with some of the most prominent people in wrestling regarding the possibility that he gets back into wrestling, something that has been his life since starting to work for his father as a promoter in the late 1960s. My own feeling, which is shared by the majority of those I have talked to, is that McMahon is done due to the combination of his age, reputation and lack of openings.”

It seems that Vince McMahon will conclude his tenure in the wrestling business. At the same time, he may not pursue establishing his own promotion.
