HBO Max’s Aquaman: King of Atlantis Clip Teases Arthur’s First Day as King

Ahead of its debut this Thursday, HBO Max has released an Aquaman: King of Atlantis clip for executive producer James Wan’s upcoming three-part animated miniseries, revealing the first four minutes of the first chapter. The video, which you can check out below, gives us a glimpse into Arthur’s first day as King which begins with an awkward silent treatment from the Atlantean citizens who see still him as an outsider.

The limited series will be available for streaming on October 14, starting with the first part titled “Chapter One: Dead,” followed by “Chapter Two: Primordeus” on Thursday, October 21, and “Chapter Three: Tidal Shift” on Thursday, October 28.

Described as a playful reimagining of the iconic superhero, Aquaman: King of Atlantis will feature the voices of Cooper Andrews (The Walking Dead) as Aquaman, Gillian Jacobs (Community) as Mera, Thomas Lennon (Reno 911) as Vulko, and Dana Snyder (Jellystone!) as Ocean Master.

“The three-part event begins on Aquaman’s first day on the job as King of Atlantis and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess,” reads the official synopsis. “Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the throne!”

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is executive produced by James Wan, Victor Courtright, and Marly Halpern-Graser, with the latter two also serving as showrunners. It is a production by Warner Bros. Animation. Executive producers are Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear & Rob Hackett, and Sam Register.

Aquaman/Arthur Curry was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris in 1941. The DC character was first adapted into an animated series during the 1970s in the classic cartoon Super Friends.
