Trailer for Netflix Series Medici: The Magnificent Revealed

Netflix has revealed a first look at the trailer (via Deadline) for season two of the historical anthology drama Medici. The show’s sophomore season, titled Medici: The Magnificent, stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Martian) as Jacopo de’ Pazzi and Daniel Sharman (Immortals, Teen Wolf) as Lorenzo de’ Medici. The show’s first season, Medici: Masters of Florence, starred Richard Madden, another Game of Thrones alumni who played Robb Stark, the son of Sean Bean’s character, Ned Stark.

The second season of the Italian drama series is set in 15th century Florence, taking place 20 years after the first season at the heart of the Renaissance. The story is told through one of the most important historical figures of all times, Lorenzo the Magnificent. After Lorenzo assumes leadership of the family-run bank. Once in power, he decides to do things differently, which brings him into conflict with the head of Florence’s other powerful banking family, Jacopo de’ Pazzi.

Along with Bean and Sharman, the cast includes Sarah Parish (Broadchurch), Bradley James (Merlin), Alessandra Mastronardi (Master of None), Synnøve Karslen (Clique), Raoul Bova (The Tourist) and Julian Sands (Gotham).

Directing duties for this season’s eight-episode run was divided between Jon Cassar, former director and producer of the series 24, and Jan Maria Michelini, who also helmed episodes of season one’s Medici: Masters of Florence. Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, The Man in the High Castle) is executive-producing with CEO of Lux Vide, Luca Bernabei (Devils).

Season two will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 25, 2019.
