A lot of legacy sequels have gone awry, but Cobra Kai wonderfully built on The Karate Kid franchise and created a television show that was just as good. It ran for six seasons, staying entertaining throughout its entire run and adding depth to some of the franchise’s more one-note characters. Now the Cobra Kai: The Complete Series Blu-ray release allows fans to own all six seasons of the show.
“Bitter enemies. Warring dojos. New blood. Daniel and Johnny reignite old West Valley rivalries in this follow-up series to the Karate Kid films. Bonus Features: Commentaries; Deleted & Extended Scenes; and More,” reads the official description.
Cobra Kai was a true resurgence for William Zabka, who excellently returned as Johnny Lawrence and added humanity to the classic 80s villain. Both Zabka and Ralph Macchio are great in the show, which manages to be more than an exercise in nostalgia as it balances a great sense of humor with true reverence for the original films rather than making light of them. Running for 65 episodes, the show is a rewarding watch, and you won’t want it to end, as the quality stayed high throughout.
While there’s sadly no 4K release, the Blu-ray transfers look fantastic. Without dropping any detail, each disc holds five episodes and looks wonderful. It’s a clear upgrade from streaming. All 65 episodes look and sound great, with the audio having a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio mix.
The Cobra Kai: The Complete Series Blu-ray is presented wonderfully, as all six seasons come in their own case, and discs aren’t stacked, so it doesn’t feel like a budget release. There’s also a wide range of bonuses, including commentary tracks on the pilot and series finale episodes, plus deleted scenes for each season, blooper reels, and a few featurettes. Fans won’t be disappointed by owning this great show.
Cobra Kai: The Complete Series Blu-ray Review: Final Verdict
Cobra Kai fans will love this set. The Cobra Kai: The Complete Series Blu-ray features six high-quality seasons, and they look better than ever without any streaming compression. Packaged the right way, this feels like a celebration of a great show rather than a budget release.
