Misfits Reboot: Pilot for a remake of the British series ordered by Freeform
Freeform has given a pilot order for a Misfits reboot, according to Deadline. The pilot for the remake of the British cult series would come from writer/producer Diane Ruggiero-Wright, who worked on iZombie and Veronica Mars, as well as Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire. The cast so far includes Ashleigh LaThrop (Sirens), Tre Hall (Rebel), Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie). Victoria Mahoney (Grey’s Anatomy) will direct. If the show goes to series, the original show’s creator, Howard Overman, will also executive produce with Schwartz, Savage and Ruggiero-Wright. Fake Empire executive Lis Rowinski will serve as co-executive producer. Ruggiero-Wright would be showrunner.

The Misfits reboot would be based around a group of five young people in a community service program that develop supernatural powers after an electrical storm. Antonia Thomas, Iwan Rheon, Lauren Socha, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Robert Sheehan starred in the British series that ran from 2009 to 2013.
In the Misfits reboot, Lathrop will play Alicia, “a spoiled, vapid, middle-class party girl who seems to have three main goals in life: have fun, look hot and get guys.” Hall plays Curtis, a football player with a promising career who lost his way and isn’t happy about it. MacDonald plays, Kelly, “street smart with a hair-trigger temper and a penchant for beating the crap out of people.” Cannavale, who is the son of actor Bobby Cannavale (Mr. Robot), will play con artist and thief Nathan with an inflated sense of self.
Ruggiero-Wright executive produced and wrote a number of episodes of Veronica Mars, starring Kristen Bell, which ran from 2004-2007, and wrote the 2014 film based on the series. She was a consulting producer on Dirty Sexy Money and Bates Motel, and is the writer/executive producer for iZombie.
