Showtime has ordered 12 half-hours of the comedy “House of Lies” as well as 12 one-hour episodes of drama “Homeland”:
Following the successful debuts of four critically acclaimed, new original hit series The Big C, Shameless, Episodes and The Borgias Showtime Networks and President of Entertainment David Nevins, will be adding two more original series to the premium channels line-up. Homeland, a one hour drama starring Emmy® Award winner Claire Danes, Golden Globe® nominee Damian Lewis and Emmy and Tony® Award winner Mandy Patinkin, and House of Lies, a half-hour comedy starring Academy Award®-nominated actor Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, have received 12 episode orders. Both series will start production during the summer of 2011.
On the heels of successfully launching our four freshman series in the last 8 months, were excited to introduce the next wave of Showtime shows, said Nevins. HOMELAND and HOUSE OF LIES are audacious in both their concept and their casting. They build upon the networks successful pedigree and expand the definition of what a SHOWTIME series can be.
HOMELAND is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis) a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed deal for nine years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. Mandy Patinkin will portray Saul, a veteran CIA Division Chief who is Carries (Danes) boss and mentor. HOMELAND is written by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and Gideon Raff, and is based on Raffs Israeli television series Prisoners of War. The series will be produced by FOX 21.
HOUSE OF LIES is a half-hour comedy created, written and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan from the hit tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn. The new comedy is a scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm. Cheadle stars as Marty, a highly-successful and cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his way with and for his clients. Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) will play Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a razor-sharp, Ivy-League graduate who works at Martys firm. Co-stars include noted comedian Ben Schwartz (Undercovers) and Josh Lawson (Romantically Challenged) as Martys corporate team members; Dawn Oliveri (Heroes) as Martys acerbic ex-wife; the legendary Glynn Turman (In Treatment) as his psychoanalyst father; and Donis Leonard Jr. (The Fresh Beat Band) as Martys young son. Jessika Borsiczky (Flash Forward) will serve as executive producer, and Emmy winner Stephen Hopkins (Californication, 24) directs and executive produces.
