Floriana Lima Cast as DC Character Maggie Sawyer in Supergirl
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Floriana Lima (The Family, Allegiance) has been cast in the role of Maggie Sawyer on The CW’s Supergirl.
The character was created by John Byrne in the late ’80s and introduced as Captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit in the pages of “Superman.” She was later revealed to be gay, making her one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics.
In the series, she will be a detective for the National City Police Department who “takes a special interest in the cases involving aliens.”
Melissa Benoist leads the cast of Supergirl as the title character alongside Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, with Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Supergirl season two is also adding recurring roles for Lynda Carter as the President of the United States and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
Supergirl airs at 8/7c p.m. Mondays on The CW. The second season premieres on October 10th.
