Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s widow’s lawsuit over $1.2M claim brings his family trust into focus
Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s widow, Tenisha Warner, has recently filed a lawsuit tied to a $1.2 million dispute involving the late actor’s estate and the Warner Family Trust led by his mother, Pamela Warner.
According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, Tenisha claims that Warner agreed to provide several financial benefits under a prenuptial agreement the couple signed in May 2022. Its timeline falls before their wedding in 2017. She alleges that he failed to fulfill several of those financial commitments before his death.
The lawsuit’s central claim revolves around a $1 million life insurance policy. Tenisha argues that Warner agreed to cover the policy by placing her as the sole beneficiary but never purchased or maintained it. Several other financial claims include annual tax-free returns of $16,000, contributions to a Roth IRA in her name, and a $5000 monthly salary during her time as his Chief of Staff and assistant at the time of marriage.
In total, the overall filings amount to nearly $1.28 million. The amount includes the claimed life insurance benefit, more than $50,000 in anniversary payments, $30,500 in Roth IRA contributions, and approximately $195,000 in unpaid salary.
She also claims that his estate lacks sufficient funds to cover the alleged debt. As a result, she proceeded with legal action to recover the money from the Warner Family Trust. Tenisha is also asking the court to award interest, attorney’s fees, and a court order preventing any money or property connected to the trust from being distributed while the legal dispute is pending.
Warner was best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show and later built a successful career as an actor, director, producer, and musician.
