He gave an update about how he’s doing after confronting an intruder who broke into the show’s New York studio. Following the incident, it was reported that the intruder was detained and taken into custody.

Melvin shared a lengthy update on Instagram, acknowledging the messages he has received over the last few hours about his well-being in light of the intruder incident. He said that he’s fine and thanked those who reached out. He announced that he will be back on the show tomorrow morning.
In addition, he also shared a statement from NBC News’ Today, updating on the scary event and the current status of the case. It read, “There was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident.” It further stated that no altercation occurred and no one was injured. It mentioned that the show is cooperating with the law officials as they investigate the case.
“NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios,” it further added.
An NYPD spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly that the incident happened at 9:19 a.m. local time. The intruder was described as a “disorderly individual” who entered the building, but the officer present on scene immediately placed him into custody. Moreover, TMZ reported more details on the scene involving Melvin. The outlet alleged that the intruder cornered the anchor in a restricted area, lunged at him, and used a racial slur.
