Apple TV’s new psychological thriller, featuring Patrick Wilson, is set to premiere on the platform next week. The TV-MA-rated remake series is an adaptation of a popular novel that inspired Martin Scorsese’s 1991 hit film. Before that, it was also adapted in 1962.
Cape Fear hits Apple TV very soon
Cape Fear will premiere with two episodes on Apple TV on Friday, June 5, 2026. Subsequent episodes will arrive weekly. The streamer announced the release date earlier this month with a trailer.
Nick Antosca developed the show and co-executive-produced it. Further, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg also executive-produced it through their studios, Sikelia Productions and Amblin Television, respectively.
The story centers on Tom and Anna Bowden, married attorneys who once helped put a dangerous man, Max Cady, behind bars. Years later, Max is now out of jail and begins obsessively stalking the Bowdens with sinister intentions. This unexpected confrontation creates a crack in the family, as Tom and Anna try to hide a dark secret.
Cape Fear’s cast features Javier Bardem as Max, Amy Adams as Anna, Patrick Wilson as Tom, and Lily Collias as Natalie, among others. Adams and Bardem are also serving as executive producers of the show.
The series is based on John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel, The Executioners. It has been adapted into a film twice, once in 1962 and again in 1991, with both versions titled Cape Fear. Unlike the films, which were relatively faithful to the source material, the show seems to diverge further from it.
Apple TV’s Cape Fear stands out not only by changing certain story elements but also by altering the names of the two leads. In the novel, the husband’s name is Sam, and the wife Carol. Although Sam was a lawyer, he served only as a witness in Max’s case. However, in the upcoming show, both Tom and Anna are attorneys on opposite sides of the case.
