Netflix has confirmed the return of one of its sports comedies as the series heads into its second season. The show, which earned a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes in its debut season, will continue its story with a new batch of episodes set to premiere later this year.
Running Point Season 2 arrives on Netflix in April
Season 2 of Running Point premieres on Netflix on April 23. The sports comedy stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball franchise. Netflix released first-look images alongside confirmation of the return date.
Season 1 centered on Isla Gordon, an ambitious and underestimated executive who unexpectedly takes control of the Los Angeles Waves after a major scandal. She steps into the role after her older brother Cam crashes his Porsche while using drugs. The team advances to Game 7 but suffers a late-season defeat. Cam later reappears after bribing his way out of rehab.
The Season 2 synopsis states: “Isla Gordon is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves, she’s the one everyone is watching. With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Justin Theroux). What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts.”
The ensemble cast includes Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman and Uche Agada, with recurring guest stars Ray Romano, Max Greenfield and Jay Ellis. Hudson executive produces alongside Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, with Jordan Rambis producing.
Kaling International produces Running Point in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series holds a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Executive producers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen return for Season 2, and Stassen also serves as showrunner.
