Prime Video’s post-apocalyptic hit Fallout is back with Season 2, and early critical reviews and RT score suggest the series has not only maintained its momentum but surpassed its Season 1 in a major way.
What critics are saying about Fallout Season 2
Season 1 of Fallout set a high benchmark, getting a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes while winning over both longtime fans of the Bethesda video game franchise and newcomers. Season 2 has now outperformed that success, debuting with a 97% Tomatometer score.
Critics have widely praised Fallout Season 2 for expanding the world while sharpening its characters and themes. Ed Power of The Daily Telegraph UK wrote, “When it’s two human actors trading insults, Fallout – exploding skulls and all – stands head and shoulders above most video game adaptations.” Cade Onder of ComicBook.com noted, “It’s hard not to fall in love with the Wasteland and its occupants once again when the creative team is operating at this level.”
Therese Lacson from Collider called it “still an entertaining romp,” adding that Season 2 “embraces its roots with a dark, violent, and funny return.” Lauren Milici of GamesRadar+ wrote about the production design, saying, “Fallout remains fun as hell, and kicks it up a notch by bringing New Vegas to life with stunningly accurate set designs and franchise Easter eggs galore.” Chase Hutchinson of The Seattle Times summed up the consensus, writing that the show has “outdone an already strong first season by boldly venturing out to explore some bigger ideas.”
Created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, Fallout Season 2 continues to explore a brutal, darkly comic Wasteland shaped by inequality, violence, and long-buried corporate secrets. The eight-episode second season picks up immediately after the Season 1 finale.
Following the revelation of her father Hank’s (Kyle MacLachlan) role in triggering the nuclear holocaust, Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) leaves behind any remaining innocence. She heads toward New Vegas alongside the Ghoul (Walton Goggins), determined to hold her father accountable. Their uneasy alliance forms the backbone of the season.
