While HBO has yet to officially green-light a sequel installment for the Colin Farrell-led Penguin series, the entertainment juggernaut’s latest deal with Lauren LeFranc suggests that Season 2 might just be on the cards. The Penguin showrunner recently extended her collaboration with HBO by signing an official contract with the company, raising hopes for the continuation of her DC series in the process.

On August 19, Variety reported that Lauren LeFranc has inked a two-year overall deal with HBO and HBO Max. Additionally, she has also launched her own production banner, under the title of Acid and Tender Productions. Many have taken this as a promising sign for the future of The Penguin series, with LeFranc’s extended association with HBO suggesting that Season 2 could happen in the near future.
“I am thrilled to continue my creative partnership with HBO,” LeFranc noted. “They have been unwavering in their support of my work on The Penguin and beyond. My company, Acid and Tender Productions, comes from a sincere desire to shepherd bold stories and perspectives from singular voices and artists I love. I came up in writers rooms, and when they’re working, there’s nothing better. My hope is for Acid and Tender to become that kind of haven for writers and filmmakers who seek to tell authentic, off-kilter, character-driven stories, no matter the genre,” she added.
The deal between LeFranc and HBO comes after The Penguin’s staggering performance in the award season. The series received 24 Emmy nods, becoming the second-most nominated show this year, trailing only Apple TV+’s Severance.
Despite the aforementioned update, The Penguin Season 2 has yet to receive official confirmation from its makers. In a recent interview, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman/CEO Channing Dungey teased fans that while a sequel is certainly possible, the immediate focus remains on getting Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II out.
