Pedro Pascal on The Last of Us Season 2: ‘I Think Part 2 Has More Leeway’

HBO’s The Last of Us has been called one of the best video game adaptations of all time, thanks to its commitment to following the storylines in the game. With a second season in development, a controversial storyline from the video game sequel will be a point of contention among viewers. In The Last of Us Part II, Joel dies, a pivotal moment that happens early on. When asked if The Last of Us Season 2 will follow suit, Pedro Pascal, who stars as Joel, is unsure what will happen.

“I don’t know,” Pascal told the Variety Awards Circuit podcast. “I think Part Two has more leeway. It seemed to be a different immersive experience, while things must happen for the central narrative to occur. It seems it’s a little bit more open. That means I don’t fucking know.”

Who is Involved in The Last of Us?

Pascal stars as Joel, a hardened smuggler tasked with transporting Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, across the post-apocalyptic United States as the young girl might hold the cure to the deadly fungal infection.

The ensemble cast features Anna Torv, Gabriel Luna, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Rutina Wesley, Scott Shepherd, and Melanie Lynskey. Actors who starred in the video game that appeared in Season 1 include Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, and Jeffrey Pierce. Only Dandridge reprised her role, Marlene, from the video game for the TV series. The other three played different characters.

“The live-action series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed,” reads the synopsis. “Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-pandemic America.”

Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann created The Last of Us television adaptation. Druckmann co-created and co-wrote The Last of Us video game series. Mazin and Druckman co-wrote the series and directed one episode in Season 1. The series is a joint production of Naughty Dog, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, the Mighty Mint, and Sony Pictures Television.

All episodes of Season 1 are available to stream on Max.
