According to Variety, Amazon Studios has officially set the Cruel Intentions cast for its forthcoming series adaptation of 1999’s cult classic teen movie of the same name.
Who is in the Cruel Intentions TV show?
Amazon has confirmed that Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Totally Completely Fine), Khobe Clarke (Yellowjackets), Brooke Lena Johnson (You), and Sara Silva (The Boys) have been tapped for the series regular roles of Caroline, Lucien, Scott, Beatrice, and Cece, respectively. Production is expected to begin this early June in Toronto.
In addition, Sean Patrick Thomas, who played Ronald Clifford in the original movie, has also signed onto the remake to portray a new character named Professor Chadwick. “Set in Washington, D.C., the Cruel Intentions series follows two ruthless step-siblings who will do anything to stay at the top of the Greek Life hierarchy at their elite college,” reads the synopsis. “When a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputations… including seducing the daughter of the U.S. vice president.”
The TV adaptation will be written and created by Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman. Executive producers are original movie producer Neal H. Moritz for Original Film along with Pavun Shetty, Andrea Iervolino, and Monica Bacardi of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, and Bruce Mellon. It is a production by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios, and Original Film.
The 1999 movie was a modern retelling of the 1782 French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. It starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, Ryan Philippe as Sebastian Valmont, Reese Witherspoon as Annette Hargrove, and Selma Blair as Cecile Caldwell.
