Will Ferrell to Star in Golf Comedy Series From Rian Johnson’s T-Street

Will Ferrell is set to star in a new golf comedy series developed by both Ferrell and director Rian Johnson‘s production houses, according to a report from Deadline.

The as-of-now untitled series will see Ferrell star as a professional golfer who becomes the face of a “controversial new league” that competes with the PGA. Despite the series being fictional, it seems like it might play on the real-life LIV Golf — a league that was founded in 2021 and infamously saw a handful of high-profile golfers, including the legendary Phil Mickelson, leave the PGA for.

The outlet notes that Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum’s Gloria Sanchez Productions will partner with Rian Johnson & Ram Bergman’s T-Street to develop the series. It’s unclear who will be writing or acting as showrunner as of now, but with Johnson and Ferrell both aboard in some capacity, it’s already one of the bigger comedy projects in some time.

Ferrell’s history in the world of comedy is well-known, but despite becoming a superstar for his time on the comedy show Saturday Night Live, the actor hasn’t actually starred in many major TV roles. One of his few major starring television roles came in the 2021 Apple TV+ series The Shrink Next Door.

Recently, Ferrell starred in the 2022 holiday musical Spirited and will soon star in the 2023 animated comedy film Strays and appear in the upcoming Barbie film.
