Selena Gomez to Develop Reimagined Sixteen Candles Series at Peacock

According to Deadline, singer-actress Selena Gomez is currently in the process of developing a Latina-led comedy series titled 15 Candles for Peacock, described as a “reconfiguration” of John Hughes’ classic teen comedy film Sixteen Candles. The former Disney star is developing the half-hour-long series along with Vida creator Tanya Saracho and Gabriela Revilla Lugo (Whiplash).

15 Candles will be written and executive produced by Saracho and Lugo. It is executive produced by Gomez through her July Moon Productions banner along with Christine Dávila for Ojalá Productions. It will be a production by UCP.

“It follows four young Latinas starting high school as they overcome their feelings of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind through the lens of the traditional female coming-of-age rite: the quinceañera,” reads the synopsis.
