UPDATE: Good news for Supernatural fans as both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have issued statements after talking about the prequel, which is “early in the process with miles to go,” and assured fans that they’re on the same page.

Find the original story titled “Jared Padalecki ‘Gutted’ Not to Be Involved in Supernatural Prequel” below:

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has mixed feelings about finding out that The Winchesters is in development on Twitter and he isn’t involved.

“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter,” Padalecki said quoting Jensen Ackles’ announcement post. “I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

After a fan wondered if this was just a bad joke, Padalecki made it clear it wasn’t. The current Walker star at The CW said he was “gutted” to find out this way and had no clue the announcement was coming.

Called The Winchesters, the prequel will focus on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents, John and Mary. Ackles will serve as the show’s narrator and is an executive producer on the show alongside his wife Danneel. The show currently has a script commitment and will be written by former Supernatural co-executive producer Robbie Thompson.

“Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary,” reads the logline. “Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

Supernatural lasted 15 seasons on The CW and ran from September 15, 2005, through November 19, 2020. Ackles and Padalecki played brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in the lead roles.
