Hulu has found its “Iron Mike” for its upcoming limited series in Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Rhodes will also executive produce the limited series called Iron Mike, which is set for eight episodes. The drama, which is being helmed by the I, Tonya team will go into Tyson’s life in and outside the ring. Tyson has previously been critical of the series due to him not being involved.
Rhodes previously worked with Hulu on the streamer’s The United States vs. Billie Holiday film. He previously gained critical acclaim for his roles in Moonlight and Birdbox. I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers created the upcoming Iron Mike series. Karin Gist (Our Kind of People) will serve as showrunner. Executive producers include Craig Gillespie, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Entertainment 360’s Darin Friedman, Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan, and Rhodes.
A heavyweight boxing legend, Tyson has been a controversial figure for both his boxing career and personal life. Tyson was convicted of rape and served three years in prison as a result. After being released, Tyson attempted to regain his glory in boxing but failed to do so. Infamously, he was disqualified after biting Evander Holyfield’s ear. After several losses that damaged his legacy, Tyson retired in 2006. He recently returned for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. and has rehabbed his image significantly in the past decade and a half, having appeared in The Hangover among other acting roles and hosting a popular podcast.
