See No Evil: What Happened to Amber Meadows?

Disclaimer: This article contains mentions of murder and assault. Reader discretion is advised.

Amber Meadows was a teenager when she was found dead at the Travelodge in Beckley in 2018. See No Evil‘s upcoming episode titled “Room 48” revolves around the kidnapping and murder of Amber Meadows alongside the abduction of two other women who were held hostage by armed men in a motel. The episode will air on ID on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET.

59 News reported that Amber Meadows was killed early on July 9, 2018, at the Travelodge on Harper Road in Beckley. Amber, along with her two friends, were approached by a group of armed men. After they were taken to the Travelodge location, the three women were held hostage. At some point, Amber reportedly got into an argument with one of the men and was shot by him.

The men demanded that Meadows turn in some drugs and money that she owed them. When she refused, the confrontation heated up, and one of the men directed Meadows to the back of the room, WCHS reported.

The other two women then heard a gunshot after a violent argument between Amber Meadows and the man. The suspects then escaped from the room. They were identified as Jonathan Bird, Tyrique Pearl, Antonio Williams, and Davide Hudson when surveillance footage showed them purchasing ammunition from a Walmart store. According to Metro News, Hudson was at odds with Meadows’ partner at the time and was accused of shooting her.

Who was convicted of Amber Meadows’ murder?

Davide Hudson was the last one from the group of accused to get arrested, as he was on the run briefly after the rest of the accused were caught. He turned himself in to the Beckley Police Department detectives only days later. However, the prosecution argued that there was insufficient evidence to determine that Hudson shot Amber Meadows.

The trial concluded with Davide Hudson’s conviction. In February 2022, Davide Hudson was reportedly convicted of three counts of kidnapping, first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, and use of firearms. The trial began towards the end of January and was concluded in early February. Pearl, Williams, and Bird were all charged with murder, three counts of kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit a felony, WCHS reported.

Hudson was given four consecutive life sentences, with two of them providing an opportunity for parole. He was also given one to five years for felony conspiracy. The court considered testimonies from five witnesses, which led to the conviction of Davide Hudson, WVVA reported. However, Robert Dunlap, Hudson’s attorney, reportedly argued that the testimonies were fairly inconsistent.

Amber Meadows’ mother, Jeri Sue, claimed that she knew that her daughter was battling drug addiction. But she asserted that didn’t know who any of the accused men were. In an interview with 59 News, Sue claimed she wanted to send out a message to young girls to save their parents from the “heartbreak.”

The upcoming episode of See No Evil will explore the incident of kidnapping and subsequent murder. It will follow investigators as they study surveillance footage to find out who killed Meadows.
