Netflix’s Till Murder Do Us Part Unpacks Jens Soering & Elizabeth Haysom’s Murderous Romance

Netflix’s new documentary-style series, Till Murder Do Us Part: Soering vs. Haysom, unpacks Jens Soering and Elizabeth Haysom’s murderous romance. In 1985, Soering, an 18-year-old German national, reportedly murdered Haysom’s parents because they disapproved of their romance. He initially admitted to the killings but recanted his story later, claiming that he was covering for his girlfriend.

According to Times Now, in 1990, Soering was convicted in the double murders of William and Nancy Haysom. He was given two life sentences while Haysom pleaded guilty and was handed 90 years in prison. They were both granted parole in November 2019 after serving 33 years in prison.

Till Murder Do Us Part: What did Jens Soering & Elizabeth Haysom do?

According to Variety, the six-part series, Till Murder Do Us Part, dives into Jens Soering and Elizabeth Haysom’s whirlwind romance. The two met at the University of Virginia in 1984. However, Haysom’s parents, William and Nancy, disapproved of their romance, which ended with their violent murders on March 30, 1985, at their Bedford County home. After the killings, the murderous couple fled the country.

The Times Now report states that police arrested both the accused in England on fraud-related charges but were later linked to the double murders. Moreover, during the initial stages of the investigation, Soering reportedly admitted to murdering his then-girlfriend’s parents by slashing their throats.

In 1987, Elizabeth Haysom, 23, pleaded guilty to accessory to murder charges and was given a 90-year prison sentence – 45 years for each count. But Jens Soering pleaded not guilty to the charges and stood trial in 1990 when the State of Virginia convicted him on two first-degree murder charges. He also recanted his initial confession, claiming that he only admitted to the murders to cover for Haysom. He received two life sentences.

The outlet reported that after 33 years, in November 2019, Soering and Haysom walked out of prison on parole. In fact, recent developments, owing to DNA, in the case suggest the presence of two other males at the crime scene. This implies that Haysom was likely behind the murder and had two other accomplices helping her at the time.
