The Blackcoat’s Daughter Clip Cranks Creepy Heat

New clip from Oz Perkins’ chilling The Blackcoat’s Daughter drags us down to the furnace

Made in 2015 and screened at international festivals under the title February, The Blackcoat’s Daughter was director Oz Perkins’ maiden voyage into filmmaking, though it is only being released now (in theaters on March 31st from A24), after the release of his second film I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Confused? Don’t be. It’s just how these things work sometimes. With Daughter, Perkins (son of film legend Anthony Perkins) announced his mission statement to make understated, slow-burning psychological horror movies that refuse to pander to the obvious. It’s a movie made by an intelligent artist for sophisticated viewers.

The Blackcoat’s Daughter stars Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka as a Catholic school girl slave to hazy dreams of her father, who otherwise has seemingly abandoned her. She’s informed by the schoolmaster that indeed, her parents will not be picking her up and that she will have to spend the winter break at the boarding school with fellow students Rose (Lucy Boynton) and Joan (Emma Roberts). Each of these girls has a story to tell and are in fragile states of mind. And as we know from a winter spent at The Overlook Hotel, a fragile state of mind cut off from the word does not make for a happy ending…

To steel you for the quietly unnerving film’s March 31st release, we have a new clip below. And if you’re afraid of basements…don’t watch it. Please.
