Expected to be a Cannes Film Festival entry, today we get our first look at The Tale of Tales, the newest film from Matteo Garrone (Gamorrah) and his English-language debut no less. The film stars Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, John C. Reilly, Toby Jones, Shirley Henderson, Alba Rohrwacher and Massimo Ceccherini and is based on fairy tale collection “The Tale of Tales” by 17th century Italian author Giambattista Basile.
The story will interweave three separate story strands bookended by brief bits in which Italians Alba Rohrwacher and Massimo Ceccherini will play a street circus family. In one tale Hayek will play a jealous queen who forfeits her husband’s life. In another, Cassel plays a king whose passion is stoked by two mysterious sisters.
Watch the teaser below, which is pretty much just a visual preview for anyone that doesn’t know Italian as voice over pretty much dominates the scene, but you do get an idea for what to expect.
