New Line and MGM have released what they are calling the “main trailer” for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the third and final film in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit trilogy, which arrives in theaters on December 17.
The film picks up where The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug left off as the Dwarves of Erebor have reclaimed the vast wealth of their homeland, but now must face the consequences of having unleashed the terrifying Dragon, Smaug, upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
It would appear this final chapter will come to a conclusion in a way that helps tie it in with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring as Sauron, the Dark Lord, begins sending forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. The races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must unite as five armies as they head into war.
It has been some time since I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but it might actually be interesting to return to Fellowship before seeing this movie to see how it will tie in to the overall Rings franchise. Not being a loyal Tolkienite I would definitely need some assistance in even remembering how Fellowship begins.
