Even those defending Jason Reitman‘s Men, Women & Children seem to agree with me in saying the storyline centered on Ansel Elgort and Kaitlyn Dever‘s characters is the best aspect of the film. I take it a step further and suggest it’s what the film should have focused on and just left the rest to fall by wayside, left a little ambiguous. Instead Reitman and co-writer Erin Cressida Wilson go the full Crash route with the ensemble and it devolves into a giant, cliched mess by the end (read my full review here).
Today a new trailer for the movie has been released and, for the most part, it focuses on the Elgort and Dever storyline, incorporating Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”) who plays Elgort’s father and Jennifer Garner who plays Dever’s over-protective mother. These storylines bump into a couple other characters, such as Judy Greer, but for the most part their story is enough to get to the point of the film.
Check out the trailer below and see what you think. Men, Women & Children hits limited theaters on October 1.
