Sony has finally released the first trailer for Antoine Fuqua‘s The Equalizer, reteaming the director with his Training Day star in a feature film adaptation of the late-’80s TV series centered on a private detective available for hire if you have a problem that you don’t know how to solve.
Of course, some may have never heard of the show, or perhaps your only knowledge of it is from Rob Reiner‘s hysterical performance from The Wolf of Wall Street. The original featured Edward Woodward (Hot Fuzz) in the lead role of which Denzel now takes over.
Written by Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2), The Equalizer finds Denzel playing McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help.
Marton Csokas, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo co-star in the film, which is set for a September 26 release.
