The Weinstein Co. has premiered the first trailer for The Giver, the upcoming film starring Jeff Bridges and Brenton Thwaites, the latter as Jonas, a young boy from a seemingly utopian, futuristic world, who is singled out to receive special training from The Giver (Bridges), who alone holds the memories of the true joys and pain of life.
Based on the novel by Lois Lowry, the film is directed by Philip Noyce and co-stars Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder, Katie Holmes and Odeya Rush and is currently slated to hit theaters on August 15.
There has been a lot of talk about the film’s plot and how it has changed from Lowery’s novel to the point I received an email a few days ago about it once again, but I can only keep up with fury over young adult adaptations for so long before going crazy. I’ll just let the movie do the talking for those of you that have such issues. Here’s the first trailer and your first chance to get upset.
