Slate just posted this The Women of Wall Street trailer, which is supposedly a parody of The Wolf of Wall Street, but I’m failing to see what makes this a parody rather than just the same thing with the genders reversed.
Problem is, the actions in Wolf, if the gender roles were reversed, aren’t entirely unthinkable. There are two halves to parody, one being the mimicry, the other being the heightened exaggeration that brings some sort of comedic effect and can actually make a point. From my perspective, I fail to see the humor in what was done and this certainly isn’t attempting to say something about the film’s characters or its portrayal of women (which itself was a thematic element of the movie anyway), but if that was the goal then maybe a satire was in order… Then again, Wolf itself is a darkly comedic satire so…
